David Brooks' latest can't be missed

David Brooks, who is a Jew, knows more about Christianity than 99.9 % of Christians. I really don't know how he does it. His most recent column is simply breathtaking in its assurance, its frontline thinking, its grasp of the way that theology forms attitudes and strategies. He has read Peter Brown's biography of Augustine. He offers the Christian church a way forward that coincides almost exactly with the one that "generous orthodoxy" recommends. Here is the link:

It seems to me that his description of the Donatists wasting their time in gossiping about their own intramural disputes and rivalries is precisely what is going on in the Episcopal Church and its breakaways right now.
